While Claire and Moira are put into a rather chaotic situation, their story is over far too quick with little to no payoff. Barry, on the other hand, has a lengthy camapign as he treks through a variety of locations with different environmental elements and puzzles blocking his progress. There are a couple more action sequences than we’ve become used to, but there’s a good separation between that and thoughtful puzzles. Despite the lopsided breakup between the two campaigns, the conclusion of Revelations 2 will leave players satisfied with the hope of more bite-sized spin-offs in the series’ future."},{"server":"HardcoreGamer","url":"https://hardcoregamer.com/2015/03/17/review-resident-evil-revelations-2/139481/","date":"2015-03-17","rating":4,"ratingBase":5,"ratingPercent":80,"abstract":"Resident Evil Revelations 2 is an absolute surprise. While the first game was arguably the best spinoff the series has seen, Revelations 2 steps it up by offering a perfectly suited episodic format. The bite-sized experience comes with more content than most sixty dollar releases, with the Raid Mode alone being worth the investment, giving players an unhealthy amount of enjoyment. It’s a shame the survival horror title doesn’t have online co-op at launch, but it still offers something far deeper than anything in the series, and is the best value for your dollar. Resident Evil Revelations 2 may have started off a bit slow, but Capcom was able to redeem themselves by creating an irresistible adventure through and through."},{"server":"Game Informer","url":"https://www.gameinformer.com/games/resident_evil_revelations_2/b/ps3/archive/2015/03/16/resident-evil-revelations-2-review-game-informer.aspx","date":"2015-03-16","rating":8,"ratingBase":10,"ratingPercent":80,"abstract":"We've been posting episode impressions. While Barry’s campaign starts off a little mundane, breaking Natalia off to do tedious button mashing tasks, the rest of the episode makes up for it. This is Claire and Moira’s most enjoyable adventure yet, focusing on puzzle oriented scenarios while throwing in combat when necessary. This is what Resident Evil is all about; not a barrage of infected crazed men foaming at the mouth, but solving puzzles in an interconnected network of locked rooms. We also get to see a little more of the effects the heroines have on Barry’s campaign, opening up new areas for him to access. We’re on the final stretch for Resident Evil Revelations 2, and Judgment does an astonishing job setting up the finale."},{"server":"HardcoreGamer","url":"https://hardcoregamer.com/2015/03/03/review-resident-evil-revelations-2-episode-2-contemplation/137077/","date":"2015-03-03","rating":3.5,"ratingBase":5,"ratingPercent":70,"abstract":"There are certain elements to Contemplation that have been improved from the first episode, namely the more open environments and the new enemy types, but there are still apparent flaws to the story and combat scenarios. Claire’s campaign once again trails behind Barry’s, including a more direct conflict structure with no real puzzle solving elements to be found. Barry, on the other hand, relies heavily on stealth to get by, which adds an enjoyable layer of strategy before entering an area. Unfortunately, even though the core gameplay mechanics are entertaining, the story is moving at a snail’s pace at this point. There’s also a good number of reused areas between the two stories, although Capcom was able to branch them out to create just different enough paths. Resident Evil Revelations 2: Contemplation is a satisfying installment in the four-episode series, ending with a cliffhanger that will leave you excited for what’s next, but there needs to be better balance between the two campaigns."},{"server":"HardcoreGamer","url":"https://hardcoregamer.com/2015/02/26/review-resident-evil-revelations-2-episode-1-penal-colony/136592/","date":"2015-02-26","rating":3.5,"ratingBase":5,"ratingPercent":70,"abstract":"It’s always scary to try new things, but what Capcom has done with Penal Colony helps relieve some of the concern fans may have had going in. While it’s not the most innovative Resident Evil to hit the market, the new episodic format is a breath of fresh air, especially with Capcom following through with the weekly schedule. While the monster designs are overly generic and the two campaigns could have been better balanced, the core gameplay mechanics are satisfying and the cliffhanger ending will pull you in for more. It’s just too bad that Moira’s artificial intelligence isn’t all that reliable and there’s a lack of online cooperative play at launch. Regardless, the first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 is off to a solid start, but Capcom has a ways to go before convincing players that this is a good direction for the series."}],"updatedAt":"2015-03-17"}
