Its brand of fast-paced hack-and-slash action has mostly vanished in today’s gaming landscape. Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection brings that back, providing a trip down memory lane. The collection reminds us of the campy plots that worked and the serious one that didn’t; the intense and layered gameplay that brought people to the franchise in the first place and the over-the-top action that enraptured the senses. It’s all there, but it would be a lie to say the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection is masterful. Ninja Gaiden Sigma feels like a relic of the past, one that needed more love and attention to at least get it up to the quality of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. It’s also disappointing that this isn’t some definitive release that meshes the best of Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden II with the balance, control and content improvements of Sigma and Sigma 2. Combined with a presentation that only does the bare minimum, Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection comes off more like a series of up-ressed ports than a definitive collection of classic titles. It’s a good thing that the three included games are fun because Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection isn’t that masterful."},{"server":"HardcoreGamer","url":"https://hardcoregamer.com/reviews/review-ninja-gaiden-master-collection/404678/","date":"2021-06-09","rating":3,"ratingBase":5,"ratingPercent":60,"abstract":"The Ninja Gaiden franchise has been sorely missed.
